Mikro Metochi [1] or formerly Irfan Metochi [2] is a settlement of Rethymno in the Regional Unit of Rethymno in Crete.
Geography - History
Mikro Metochi is located about 3 km south of the city center, after the hill of Evliya at an altitude of 221 meters. It is a continuation of the neighboring settlement of Megalo Metochi or Risvan Metochi, its houses are built sparsely and along the road. On the way to Megalo Metochi, the Ottoman cognac of Irfan Bey is preserved. In its building complex stands the two-storey tower house in the courtyard of which there is an Orthodox church (formerly Catholic). [4] The church is dedicated to Agia Marina in a private space, in the middle of the road, which is divided in two and the cars pass on both sides of the temple. [5]
As a separate settlement, it is mentioned for the first time in 1981 that it was registered in the municipality of Rethymno [6]. According to the plan, Kallikratis belongs to the municipal unit of Rethymno of the Municipality of Rethymno and according to the 2011 census it has a permanent population of 221 inhabitants. [7]
