Myxorrouma (Μυξόρρουμα ) Rethymno
Myxorrouma or Mixorrouma [2] is a village in the municipality of Agios Vassilios, in the regional unit of Rethymno, Crete. According to the 2011 census, it has 14 inhabitants, while the local community of Myxorrouma has 371 inhabitants. It is 26.5 km from Rethymnon and is built at an altitude of 300 m. [3] Stergios Spanakis points out that his name is etymologized by the words mixi and ruma (the stream in the Cretan idiom) and interprets it as the village being built at the contribution of torrents and therefore the correct spelling is with giota. [3]
Historical data
Remains of a settlement from the Minoan era have been found at the Kosteli site. [4] The village is mentioned by Francesco Barocci in 1577 as Mixoruma in the province of St. Basil. In the Venetian census of 1583 by Kastrofylakas it is mentioned as Mixoruma with 64 inhabitants and 16 due chores, while Vasilikata also mentions the village in 1630, with the name Mixoruma. The Ottoman census of 1659 records 8 houses. [3]
The 1834 census, carried out by the Egyptians, records, along with ten other villages in the area. In the census of 1881 it belonged to the municipality of Lampi and had 126 inhabitants, all Christians. In the 1900 census it had 146 inhabitants. The 1920 census set out the seat of a rural municipality. [3] In 1925 it was designated the seat of the homonymous community, until the Kapodistrian administrative division, when the village was annexed to the Municipality of Lampis. [5] In 1951, Ano Myxorrouma was recognized as an independent settlement, which is recorded separately. [3] Ano Myxorrouma is about 300 meters from (Kato) Myxorrouma which is now largely deserted. [6]
In the past, the village's economy was based on basket weaving, sewing, and there were also flour mills and an olive mill. [6]

Points of interest
The urban planning of the settlement is interesting as the village has no internal roads, only a ring road, while the houses are glued next to each other. [6]
The building of the old primary school of Myxorouma, together with its surrounding area, has been designated a monument, because it is a remarkable building of special operation (faculty), important for the study of the history of school architecture in Crete in the early 20th century. reference point for the residents of the area and is linked to their memories. [7]
Near the village there is a valley with lush vegetation and running water throughout the year. [6]
