Frati (Φρατί ) Rethymno
Frati is a village in the municipality of Agios Vassilios, in the regional unit of Rethymno, Crete. According to the 2011 census, it has 57 inhabitants. It is 30 km from Rethymno and is built at an altitude of 350 m. [2] at the foot of the Fratian Mountains. The Fratian mountain rises between the Kourtaliotiko gorge and the Frati gorge, acting as a barrier, hence the name of the village. [3]
Historical data
The village is mentioned by Francesco Barocci in 1577 as Pati in the province of St. Basil. In the Venetian census of 1583 from Kastrofylakas it is mentioned as Fratti with 87 inhabitants and 62 due chores, while Vasilikata also mentions the village in 1630, under the name Frati. The Ottoman census of 1659 records 6 houses. [2]
The 1834 census, carried out by the Egyptians, records, along with ten other villages in the area. In the 1881 census it belonged to the municipality of Lampi and had 67 inhabitants, all Muslims. In the 1900 census it had 45 inhabitants. In the 1920 census it was subject to the rural municipality of Mixorrouma. [2] In 1925 it was annexed to the community of Mixorrouma, until the Kapodistrian administrative division, when the village was annexed to the Municipality of Lampi. [4]

Points of interest
Near the village, on either side of the Fratian Mountains, they cross the Kourtaliotiko gorge and the Fratian gorge. The village has dining areas and rooms to let. [3]
