Nenitouria (Νενητούρια) Chios
Nenitouria is a village in northwestern Chios. They belong to the municipality of Chios. They consist of four distinct settlements with separate names. The village is 66 km from the city of Chios (Chora).
Settlements
The names of the four settlements of the village are: Kosmados, although in the censuses it is mentioned as a separate settlement with 32 inhabitants, Psaros, Hametos and Andrachlias, which has now been abandoned.
History
The name of the village based on Georgios Zolotas comes from the verb ωνουμαι (έομαι), which means I buy. So neonatal means newly purchased and refers to barren lands that were bought by the first inhabitants of the area from the neighboring villages of Kefalonia. The names of the settlements are attributed to their founders.
Population
According to the 2011 census, the population of Nenitouria is 37 inhabitants.
Sights
The cathedral of the village is dedicated to the Taxiarches and is located about halfway between the settlements of Hametos and Psaros. Its age reaches two centuries. In the courtyard of the temple there is an open stone pronaos (kiosk), while to the east a stone-built bell tower. The church celebrates on September 6 every year, when the village festival takes place.
Other attractions of the village are the chapels, the very old "fountain - arch", located west of the village, the three ruined watermills along the torrent of the village.
