Fyta (Φυτά) Chios
Fyta is a small village in northern Chios (one of the so-called "North Villages"), 40 km from the city of Chios. Formerly it was the seat of a homonymous community, while today it belongs to the homonymous municipal district of the municipality of Chios, which includes the settlement of Kipouries. The average altitude of the village is 480 meters above sea level, making Fyta the second highest village in Chios after Spartounta (530 meters). Indeed, both of these villages are among the so-called "Villages of Pelinnaio", the highest mountain on the island. Fyta are built on its western slope, overlooking Amani and the open Aegean. The nearest settlement is the village of Kipouries, about one and a half kilometers to the south and lower. Then on the same road to the north we meet Spartounta.
Historically, Fyta have been referred to as "highly praised by travelers" over the past centuries (Zolotas) as the coolest and most crowded of the villages of Pelinnaio, and above all for the watery "spring of the village". This cool spring is known today as the "Water of the Angel" and gushes from the root of a beautiful plane tree. In general, plant sources have been moving eight watermills in the past. Above Fyta, the slope of Pelinnaio is covered by dense pine forest. Fyta also had a fortress (built in 1516), similar to that of the Competitors, "and they brought excellent wine, both black and blond, according to the patriots" (Zolotas).
The inhabitants of Fyta are engaged in the cultivation of olive trees, legumes, vegetables and cereals, as well as in beekeeping and animal husbandry. The evolution of the plant population in the official censuses, a typical example of the decline of the Greek province, is shown in the table.

The parish church of Plants is honored in the name of Agia Paraskevi, but the village also celebrates Agia Marina (July 17). Old temples (from the era of Ottoman rule) of Fyta are also Agia Marina, Agia Kyriaki, Agios Georgios, Panagia Eisodion, Agios Nikolaos and Stavros. The village is ecclesiastically under the hierarchical supervision of Volissos of the Holy Metropolis of Chios, Psara and Oinousses.
The postal code of Fyta is 82103.
Elsewhere in Chios
The place name "ta Fyta" in Chios also exists in the village of Exo Didyma (referring to an old code), as well as between Kardamyla and Pityous. In Nenita and Volissos there is a flat site called "Fytou", while in Potamia there is "Fytoudia".
