Kokkinochori is built on the southern slopes of Mount Makria Rachi. It is 38 km from Nafpaktos and is located on the provincial road that connects the villages of Limnitsa, Chrysovo, Aspria [4]. Notable in the area is the parish church of Agios Georgios in the location "Balkoni", which existed since 1829 and was rebuilt in 1876 and 1950 and the old monastery of Theotokoupou in the location "Paliokklisia" (altitude 1,029 m) of the Makrya ridge which flourished in 1698 [3].
History - Name
Kokkinochori along with Chrysovo and Limnista are known in the municipal tradition as "Leventochoria". The old names of the village are the names Nisvari or Nisvaris or Nisvaris [3] but also Nizvari (Nizvari) [5]. With its old name it appears in Ottoman settlements of the Ottoman Empire. The traveler François Pouqueville mentions this, as Nisvari, in the list of villages in the Kravaron area with a population of 5 families [6]. Until 1912 it belonged to the then Municipality of Apodotia, when it was designated as the seat of the Nisvaris community. In 1927, with the Government Gazette: 206/1927, it was renamed Kokkinochori [8].
