According to tradition, the village was created by Achilleas Tzes, who was exiled from Constantinople and later settled in the village by residents of Gavdos. In the Venetian census of 1583 by Kastrofylakas it is mentioned as Lefcogia with 86 inhabitants and 132 due chores, while Vasilikata also mentions the village in 1630, under the name Lefkogeia. In the Ottoman census of 1659 it is referred to as Lefkoya, with 14 houses. In the 1834 census, organized by the Egyptians, the village had a purely Christian population and was inhabited by 30 families. [2]

According to the 1881 census, Lefkogeia belonged to the municipality of Foinikas and had a purely Christian population, 230 inhabitants. In the 1900 census it had 243 inhabitants. The 1920 census lists it as the seat of a homonymous rural municipality. [2] In 1925, Lefkogeia was designated the seat of a homonymous community, until the Kapodistrian administrative division, when the village was annexed to the Municipality of Foinikas. [6]
