Geography - History
Paroreio is located on the slopes of Mount Orliakas, in the National Park of North Pindos, between the villages of Spilaio (D.), Stavros (V.), Kosmati (A.) and Trikomo (N.). It is 18 km SW. from Grevena. Its old name was Riahovo and it is culturally included in the villages of the native Grevenians, whom the Vlachs of Grevena call Kopatsaraios [2]. The Code of Zavorda mentions its inhabitants as devotees of the Holy Monastery of Agios Nikanoros or Zavordas in the period 1692 onwards (B'Grafi) [3]. As Riahovo, it is officially mentioned in 1919 in the Government Gazette 260A - 31/12/1918 to be annexed to the then community of Zalovo (Trikomou). In 1927, with the Government Gazette 18A - 01/02/1927, it was renamed Paroreion [4]. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Trikomo, they constitute the local community of Trikomou, which belongs to the municipal unit of Theodoros Ziakas of the Municipality of Grevena and according to the 2011 census has a population of 12 inhabitants [5].
