Historical data
The village is mentioned in a contract of 1279 under the name Messocorio, when it was a manor Antonio Kirini, and in the Documentary documents of the Chandakas archive in 1377. [1] It is mentioned in 1577 by Francis Barocci, and with 162 inhabitants in 1583 [2]. In the 13th century it was a manor of Antonius Quirinus. The church of Panagia dates from 1570. At the end of the 19th century it was subordinated to the Municipality of Haraka and in 1881 it had 197 Christians and 45 Turkish inhabitants. From 1928 to 1998 it was the seat of a homonymous community. With the Kapodistrias Plan, the community was abolished and the homonymous Municipal District was established, with one settlement. He joined the Municipality of Asterousia.
Regarding the name, according to the villagers, the inhabitants of the settlements Pentami, Mesoskafis, Kavalaperopetra, Gorgianou, Ag. Constantine, St. Spyridon and St. Friday they came and lived together in the current village whose location was in the middle of the settlements. From this they called it Mesochori.
