Historical data
An ecclesiastical tomb has been found at Ekklisaki, dating from the Third Late Minoan Period. The existence of a cemetery of the Greco-Roman era was ascertained. Specifically, a tombstone with the inscription EKANTIMA AKESTIMA was unveiled.
A building from earlier Byzantine times, also known as Loutra, was also found. In Loutra there is a cruciform space with incandescent, heating pipes and ventilators [1].
It is first mentioned in a document from the Ducal Archive of Chandakas in 1370. In 1583 the settlement is mentioned in the Venetian census of Kastrofylakas under the name Calivia, with 56 inhabitants [2]
Neochori is the village of Kakou, which is mentioned in a 1881 census with a population of 83 inhabitants. It does not refer to the Venetian censuses but to a document of 1371 and to the Turkish census of 1671.
