Kalyvakia (Καλυβάκια) Karditsa
Kalyvakia is a lowland village of Karditsa at an altitude of 93 meters [1].
Geography
Kalyvakia is located in the north of the city of Karditsa at a distance of 20 km from it and 4 km south of Palamas. They belong to the Municipality of Palamas [2] and its population according to the 2011 census is 147 inhabitants [3]. Their main occupation was and still is the cultivation of cotton. The village retained its Greek name, it was administratively subordinated to the Municipality of Titaniou of the province of Karditsa in the Prefecture of Trikala. From 1912 it was recognized as the Community of Kalyvakia, with the law that abolished the municipalities. In 1943, the Prefecture of Karditsa was created and included all the villages and was administratively subordinated to the Prefecture. In 1994 they decided to unite the community with the Municipality of Palamas. From 1/1/1995, the operation of the community ceases for good and changes into a settlement of the Municipality of Palamas. The inhabitants are genuine Karagounis.
Two possibilities of the name of the village, from the tradition and testimonies of its elderly inhabitants, the name was taken from Kalyvas, bey of the area. It is said that with the forced expropriation of the tsifliki of the Thessalian plain, they received a lot. The second version is that the residents of Palamas had estates in the area and built small huts to be close to their estates, they slowly stayed here since the distance from the town of Palamas is negligible and the huts became houses and a settlement called Kalyvakia .
