Thrakomakedones (Greek: Θρακομακεδόνες from Thrace and Macedonia), is a town in the regional unit East Attica, in Attica region, Greece. It is a suburb in the northern part of Athens. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Acharnes, of which it is a municipal unit.[1]
Overview
The Athenian plain lies to the east while the forests of Parnitha and the mountain of Parnitha is to the west. The mountains are situated to the north and northeast; Thrakomakedones is located on a road linking Varympompi and the mountain including its telepherique (cable car), SE of Thiva, S of Euboea and Oropos, NW of Kifissia and GR-1/E75, N of Athens, and N of the Attiki Odos (number 6).
The area around Thrakomakedones is made up of residential and urban development. The farmlands are to be found around Thrakomakedones, while forests cover the rest of the area including the south, west and east, with a couple of bushes and grasslands. The street plan is circled in two, with a few layers of streets within the circle aligned mainly from east to west, and most of the population is urban ; until the 1960s and the 1970s, the majority of the population were farmers, after which suburban housing arrived most widely in the 1990s, and continues to this day. The Proastiakos line runs east of Thrakomakedones. On September 7, 1999, the 1999 Athens earthquake shook Thrakomakedones, causing damage to some homes; one of the area's schools lost one of its three storeys. Several faults, including the Maliza Fault, are located around Thrakomakedones. In August 2004, a new stadium for AEK was planned for Thrakomakedones. Nevertheless, the new unplanned stadium was located near the Olympic Village. The area has two elementary schools, a lyceum, a gymnasium, a small mall, ATM's, a post office and a few squares (plateies).

The official results of the 2011 census have not been announcaed yet. An unnofficial report of 2011 refers to a population of around 8.000 people.
Twin towns
Italy Albanella (Italy) Thrakomakedones town has only one twin city/town. This is the municipality of Albanella, in Italy. In Thrakomakedones, there are reminding signs of the twinship, in two places. The first sign is in an across of the road that gives access to the town`s main square. The second sign is in a grass square, near schools.
