Manesi (Μανέσι) Achaia

Manesi, Tritaias, Patra (officially: Manesion) is a village in Achaia. It was the seat of the former independent homonymous community (1912-1997) and the former homonymous municipal district of the Municipality of Tritaia (1997-2010) and from 2010 onwards. It is a settlement of the homonymous local community of the newly formed Municipality of Erymanthos and its seat [1]. The settlements of Golemi, Ano Mastrantonis and Kato Mastrantoni belong to the homonymous local community [1].

Geography

It is located 36 km from the center of Patras, 1.2 km to the right at the 33rd km of E.O. Patras-Tripoli ("111"), at an altitude of 350 meters. Today it lists about 100 permanent residents with a low average age. As a settlement it is built amphitheatrically at the foot of the hill "Kousitsa". It borders with the settlement of Golemi to the north and the settlements of Ano Mastrantoni and Kato Mastrantoni to the south. As a local community it borders on the east with the local communities of Erymantheia and Kaletziou, on the north with the local community of Chionas, on the west with the local community of Roupakias and on the south with the local community of Stavrodromiou.

Churches of the village

The patron saint of the village is Agios Georgios, whose church is located southeast of the village opposite the old primary school and next to the former community office of the village. West of the village, on a hill, dominates the chapel of Agioi Anargyroi from which the visitor can admire the wonderful view of the "basin" of Tritaia. To the north of the village, is the cemetery with the church of Zoodochou Pigi or Pan (c) itsa. The church of Manesi belongs administratively to the Holy Diocese of Patras. In the village around 1700 there was also a monastery in operation for which there is no information.

Historical data

The first official (printed) reference is made in 1713 as a parish with Renesi (today's Xirochori) and Krasetza (today's Agia Varvara). The village was inhabited by 12 families in 1828, 16 families in 1851, had 131 inhabitants in 1899 and 200 in 1960. In 1890 it was inhabited by 20 families and a quarter of the village was the inn of Balasis for the rest of the travelers. Ancient coins have also been found in the village.

Georgios Martzaklis from Kriovrisi, Ilia, who "fell" heroically while fighting in 1974 during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, had a permanent residence in Manesi.

Designation

The name of the village Manesi is anthroponymic and comes from Manesis, the first settler, who came from the Manassei family, to which the name Manesi is due in many parts of Greece. There are still many families today with the name "Manesis".

Political administration

In 1835 he joined the Municipality of Erymanthia until 1841, when the Municipality of Erymanthia was abolished, and Manesi joined the then Municipality of Tritaia [2]. In 1912, with the abolition of municipalities, it became the seat of the homonymous section and its seat remains in all modern administrative changes.

The Local Community of Manesi is governed by the president of the local community and the community council who are subordinate to the municipal authority. It belongs to the Municipal Unit of Tritaia of the Municipality of Erymanthos.

Demographics

The demographic development of the settlement in the 21st century, according to national censuses [3] [4] is as follows:

Year Population
2001 138 [5] [6]
2011 87 [7]

Other information
Public utility networks

In Manesi, they have been fully developed, in addition to the telephone, electricity, water network, and broadband network, with the result that residents have access to high internet speeds.

Road networks

The village communicates with E.O. Patras-Tripoli ("111") with asphalt paved road network of poor quality. It is also directly connected to Golem (asphalt paved road), to Roupakia (dirt farm), to Ano Mastrantoni (dirt farm) and to Kato Mastrantoni (dirt farm).

Moto-Cross track

A few minutes from the center of the village, on the hill of Kousitsa, there is a network of dirt roads, which also serve as fire zones, which is suitable for Moto-Kros routes. The network of routes has not been set up properly and with specifications for this purpose, but many motorcyclists prefer it for their hobby.

Businesses

Many types of businesses are based on the borders of Manesio, such as animal feed trading, fuel supply, livestock units, power plants (photovoltaics). In the past, there was a cheese factory as well as two flour mills.

Energy autonomy

At the borders of Manesio, there are three power plants from renewable sources (two units of 100kw and one of 10kw); thus the village could be characterized as energy "autonomous".

Livestock-Agriculture

In total, livestock farmers in Manesio raise about 3,000 sheep and 350 goats. Stable facilities are characterized by moderate to modern. In the past, there was a cheese factory in the village. The olive roots, within the limits of the village, exceed 5,000, as well as the vineyards 30 acres. Crops are mostly dry (not irrigated) - with a few exceptions.

Cultural Associations

The current Local Community of Manesi has its own cultural association, which organizes on an annual basis (end of July) two-day cultural events - the "MANESIA" - which include donkeys, karaoke performances, folklore evenings, festival.
