Lochmi (Λόχμη) Grevena
Lochmi is a settlement in the NW of the Municipality of Grevena, 17 km away. from the city of Grevena. It has a population of 47 inhabitants.
History
The original name of the village was Vitsi. From 1918, it was part of the community of Amygdaleon (formerly Pikrivenitsis). On February 1, 1927, it was renamed Lochmi. Since December 4, 1997, it has been part of the wider "Kapodistriakos" Municipality of Grevena. References to the village and the inhabitants of Vitsi (or Vitsa) have been made since 1692 (in the archives of the Holy Monastery of Zavorda). A later 1831 report from an Ottoman census of Lochmi describes the "Viji" being inhabited by 25 Christian houses, belonging to the administration and the church of Grevena, the inhabitants speak the Greek language and the existing property status is characterized as "Property", ie tsifliki bei. The first census after the liberation of Macedonia in 1913, mentions the settlement with 62 inhabitants. In 1928 Lochmi had 84 inhabitants, and in the 1971 census 74 were recorded.
Folklore
The settlement of Lochmi was famous for its Beyond tsifliki, but also for the unique "Koulia" of Western Macedonia, which exists there, a three-storey building-tower built by the Turkish Beys in 1848. Today it is used as a private residence and has been declared a protected monument. by the Archaeological Service. Also of great interest is the church of the Grand Brigadiers, built in 1848, with its frescoes and tradition of a miraculous image. The same is true of St. Nicholas (1742), a temple with old hagiographies. Primary school operated in the settlement from 1929 until 1969.
