Palaiokastro (Παλαιόκαστρον) Aitoloakarnania
Palaiokastro is a village in the Regional Unit of Aitoloakarnania [1] at an altitude of 442 meters [2].
Geography - Sights
Palaiokastro is located on the northern borders with the Regional Unit of Arta at a distance of 49 km B. from Amfilochia and 28 km A.-NA. from Arta. Its name is due to an old castle, the ruins of which exist on the hill of the village and date back to the 2nd century. e.g. According to tradition, Othonas and Amalia visited the village in 1839 [3]. It is mentioned as a settlement in 1836 that it was annexed to the then municipality of Echinos [4]. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Floriada, Chrysopigi, Katharovouni, Kastriotissa, Palaia Floriada, Katharovouni and Chrysoorrachi constitute the Local Community of Floriada which belongs to the Municipal Unit of Menidi of 2011 and according to the Municipality of Amfiloch has a population of 19 inhabitants [5].
