Elaiofyto (Ελαιόφυτον) Aitoloakarnania

Elaiofyto (formerly Chlimboritas [1]) is a mountain village in the Regional Unit of Etoloakarnania at an altitude of 460 meters [1] [2]. According to the 2011 census, its population is 47 inhabitants.

Geography - Sights

Elaiofyto is located on the northern border with the Arta Regional Unit. It is 48 km north of Amfilochia and 26 km SE. from Arta. An important attraction is the monastery of Drymonari, which is located in the north of the village and the road to Floriada (Liaskovo). Since 1986 it has been described as a historic monument and "the catholic is a narrow royal building built at different times (dating to 1639), with a wood-carved iconostasis, a roof with a diamond-shaped façade, and is recorded in 18th century frescoes." Northeast of Eleofyto, in the old settlement "Megas Stournos", there is the homonymous waterfall 32 meters high.

Name - Administrative

Its old name is Chlimboritas and it is mentioned in 1961 that it belongs to the then community of Floriada. In 1978, with the Government Gazette 18A - 16/02/1978, it was renamed Eleofyton [5] and owes its name to the many olives that are cultivated in the surrounding area. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Floriada, Chrysopigi, Katharovouni, Kastriotissa, Palaia Floriada, Paleokastro and Chrysorrachi, they constitute the Local Community of Floriada, which belongs to the Municipal Unit of Menidi of 2011 and according to the Municipality of Amfilochia. has a population of 47 inhabitants [3].
