Administrative Region : Central Macedonia
Regional unit : Serres
Limani (Λιμάνι) Serres
Limani is a coastal settlement of the Prefecture of Serres [1]. It is the port of Amphipolis and more generally of the Prefecture of Serres, as the inactive port located in the settlement is the only port in the Prefecture. It was first officially reported in 1991 when it was inventoried in the then New Kerdylia community. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of 4 inhabitants [3], while according to the 2001 census it had a population of 27 inhabitants. The name Tsagezi was used in the past for the wider area, up to the current settlement of Neoi Kerdylia.
Port of Settlement
The port of the settlement remains inactive today, although it is officially recognized as a Port. It is state-of-the-art, allowing boats to be recharged. In recent years, and on the occasion of the emergence of the Casta Tomb located in the settlement of Nea Mesolakkia, there were intense discussions about the reopening of the port, which ultimately did not bring results, as no ferry services were launched. However, the possibility of reopening the railway station makes it more likely that the port will be reused in the future.
Settlement Transport
In the past, the Amphipolis Port Railway Station operated in the village, but it was mainly used for commercial purposes. The station is expected to reopen in the coming years, without specifying whether this will be done for passenger or commercial reasons. Thus, the settlement in which the only port of the Prefecture of Serres is located is expected to be upgraded. In addition, there is a sign on Egnatia Odos that leads to the settlement.
