Kallifonio (Καλλιφώνιον) Karditsa
Kallifoni or Kallifonio is a village in the municipality of Karditsa, in the regional unit (former prefecture) of Karditsa, Thessaly. According to the 2011 census it has 1,017 inhabitants. It is 13 km from Karditsa. [1]
History
Kallifoni in the middle of the 19th century was a tsifliki of the Turkish Muheddin Bey, while in the past it was a tsifliki of Ali Pasha. Bey's konaki was located in the village, near Kefalorema. The tsifliki was inherited by his son Petridin Veis and after his untimely death, his widow, Nadire, settled in Larissa in 1882. After the departure of the Muslims from Thessaly, Dimitrios Giannakopoulos bought part of the tsifliki. Tsifliki was expropriated in 1923. [1]
After 1881, Kallifoni became the seat of the municipality and a police station was established there. During the Greek-Turkish war of 1897, Nikolaos Plastiras took refuge in the village, as he beat a Turkish man in retaliation for the behavior of the Turkish commander's son, according to him, while the oral tradition in Kallifoni states that he had killed him.
