Makrychori, Karditsa

Makrychori is located in the northeastern part of the prefecture of Karditsa at an altitude of 96 meters [1] and is about 14 km from the capital of the prefecture. According to the Kallikratis Program, it is the Local Community of Makrychori, which belongs to the Municipal Unit of Kampos of the Municipality of Karditsa. According to the 2011 Census, the permanent population of the village amounted to 822 inhabitants [2], who are engaged in agriculture and especially in the cultivation of cotton. Important attractions are the two-arched bridge of Makrychori on the river Pamisos [3] and the "magoula" (low terrain) in the N -NA of the village with findings of the Middle Neolithic period [4]. The Apollon Makrychori football club, which is playing in the 3rd national championship, is based in the village.

Historical data

It retains its name from the 11th century and is mentioned as a settlement in the Turkish census of 1454 - 1455 as well as in the middle of the 17th century [3]. In its current location it was built in 1920. Before the houses were scattered in the area of ​​Bliouri, which is crossed by the river Kalentzis. During the winter, the river flooded the area and residents were forced to build their homes on various heights to avoid flooding, leaving them far apart and the village occupying a large, long, narrow area. which seems to have been named after the village. The village was established as an independent community in 1912, until then it belonged to the Municipality of Titanium. In 1924, expropriation took place and the fields were distributed to the residents by lot.
