Tsoukka (Τσούκκα) Fthiotida
Tsouka is a semi-mountainous village of Western Fthiotida at a distance of 38 km from Lamia. It is built at an altitude of 580 meters in a position with a panoramic view and that is why it is called "Balcony" of Western Fthiotida, from which "the Eagles gaze and the Dead are jealous", according to a popular saying.
Tsouka is known for its traditional festival (August 28-30) and for hunting areas where many species of game such as wild boar, hare, fox, partridge, snipe, turtle, pheasant, etc. are found. It is also famous for its traditional cafes and taverns as well as for its local lambs, wine and tsipouro, oregano and vegetables. From 1978 to 1986, the Tsouka special route of the Acropolis Rally and more recently of the "MOUNTAIN CLASSIC RALLY" took place near the village.
souka Local Community
The village of Tsouka and the settlement of Papadeika, with a total population of 379 inhabitants according to the 2011 Census [1], constitute the Local Community of Tsouka.
History
The exact date of the foundation of the village is not known, but it must definitely be before 1741, a date which is engraved on the wall of the church of Agios Georgios and which probably refers to the date of its construction.
The first known census of the population was made by the Royal Decree of 29-8-1912, which is listed in the Official Gazette A 261/1912.
Designation
Regarding the name of the village, there are the following three versions:
The name was given because the village is built on a large and stony hill. Many such hills (mountain peaks) are very often mentioned on maps like Tsouka (the predominant version).
The name comes from the first inhabitant, who probably came from Epirus and was called Tsoukas.
The name comes from the tsoukali of the first inhabitants who were called tsouki or tsouka.
The first inhabitants of the village, according to the legends of the ancients, may have come from Epirus, and today they are mainly engaged in Agriculture, Livestock and viticulture.

Dam Construction Initiative in Livadia
The presentation of the preliminary design for the construction of a Water Collection Dam in the Livadia area of Tsouka took place on 11/13/2011, at the Cultural Center of the village. In the study, the hierarchy of water uses for all locations is defined as: • Environmental protection (including the above, as well as the development of activities and work in forests). • Water supply (based on the settlements served by the project). • Irrigation (with parallel development of new organic crops). • Agrotourism and mild tourism, sports activities, etc.
DAM DESIGN
The dam will cross the main stream Livadioti vertically and will have a north-south direction. It will be earthen (heterogeneous) with a central clay core. Geometric characteristics of the dam Absolute base height: 755m Absolute bed height: 175 (177) m Cross-sectional area: 2,400m2 Length: 175m, Height: 20 (+2) m, Base width: 120m Closing height: 120m , Crown height: 779m Water level altitude: 777m Dam volume: 236.775m3, Core volume: 23.000m3 Transition zone volume: 12.000m3
Based on the topographic characteristics of the reclining area and the height of the dam, the capacity of the reservoir is 1,765x106m3. The area of the reclining area is 165,000m2. The size is determined according to the needs that the construction of the dam will serve in volume and water quality.
Recording needs
Water supply: (624 inhabitants X 0.350m3 / day X 365 days) = 79,761m3 / year Livestock: (8,000 small animals X 0.020m3 / day X 365 days) = 58.400m3 / year Irrigation: (2,000 acres X 550m3 / year) = 1.100.000m3 / year Total Required quantity of water (79.761 + 21.900 + 1.100.000) m3 / year = 1.201.666m3 / year ie 1.3X106m3
