Orfana (Ορφανά) Karditsa
Orfana or Ano Orfana, is a lowland village of Karditsa [1] at an altitude of 105 meters, which is located on the eastern borders of the prefecture with the prefecture of Larissa, on the west bank of the river Enipeas, between the villages of YTpereia (SE) and Fyllo ( SW.). It is 15.5 km SE. of Palamas, 32 km A. of Karditsa and 40 km SW. of Larissa. Its old name, from the time of the Turkish occupation, was Ano Orfanas and so it is officially mentioned in 1897 in the Government Gazette 59B-17/06/1897 to be attached to the then municipality of Fyllos which belonged to the prefecture of Trikkala. In 1955, with the Official Gazette 56A-05/03/1955, it was renamed Orfana [2]. According to the plan, Kallikratis is the local community of Orfana that belongs to the municipal community of Fyllos in the municipality of Palamas and according to the 2011 census has a population of 367 inhabitants [3].
