Lefki (Λεύκη) Karditsa
Lefki is a lowland village of Karditsa [1] at an altitude of 108 meters [2]
Geography - History
Lefki is located in the east of the prefecture, on the borders with the prefecture of Larissa. The village is built to the west of the river Enipeas, between the villages of Orfanas (NW), Yperia (A.) and Paschalitsa (SW). To the west, the Athens-Thessaloniki railway line passes. It is 18 km SE. of Palamas, 35 km A. of Karditsa and 42 km SW. of Larissa. The church of Agios Georgios is considered a sight to behold. It is a three-aisled basilica with an elevated skylight and a porch along its north side, while on its west side there is a spacious narthex. Its interior is decorated with frescoes in two layers, the first of the middle of the 18th century. and the second of the 19th c. The iconostasis is wood carved and gilded and dates back to 1759 [3].
Name - Administrative
During the Turkish occupation it was called Hamekli while in 1883 it is officially mentioned in the Government Gazette 126A-02/04/1883 with the name Laspochori attached to the then municipality of Fyllos which belonged to the prefecture of Trikkala. It was renamed Lefki in 1968 [4]. According to the plan, Kallikratis is the local community of Lefki that belongs to the municipal community of Fyllos in the municipality of Palamas and according to the 2011 census has a population of 252 inhabitants [5].
