History

The town was liberated by the Greek army on June 27, 1913. From 1913 onwards, refugees from the Bulgarian village of Startsovo, Vlachs from Ramna and many refugees from Asia Minor settled there.

The refugees rescued and transported from Startsovo to their new settlement, relics including the icon of St. Minas. Its feast is celebrated every year with a Liturgy and a traditional kurbani in the church of St. Minas Neos Petritsios, built in memory of the church of the same name in Startsovo, today's Bulgaria. [2]
Designation

The name of the village is due to the old Petritsi. A city north of Kerkini, which until 1913 was inhabited by a prosperous Greek community. After the end of the Second Balkan War and the Treaty of Bucharest (August 1913), Petritsi (now Petritsch) came under the jurisdiction of Bulgaria and its Greek population settled in (today's) New Petritsi and the surrounding area.
