Megalochori (Μεγαλοχώρι) Serres
Megalochori (officially Megalochorion) is a lowland village in the prefecture of Serres at an altitude of 35 meters [1]. It is located in the NW. shores of Lake Kerkini near the point where the river Strymonas flows into the lake [2]. It is 43 km NW. from Serres and 20 km D.-BD. from Sidirokastro [3]. The old name of the village, until 1927, was Boyuk Mahale, when with the Government Gazette 179A - 30/08/1927 it was renamed Megalochori [4]. According to the plan, Kallikratis belongs to the municipal unit of Petritsi, which belongs to the Municipality of Sintiki and according to the 2011 census has a population of 658 inhabitants [5].
