Mouria, Arkadia

Mouria (old name: Syriamou) is a village in Gortynia, part of Arcadia. It belongs to the Municipality of Kleitoros, which took the name of the ancient city-state of Kleitoras, which was, according to Pausanias, the strongest of kings.

The village stands on the hill just above the artificial lake of Ladonas, which is the water beauty of Gortynia. It is worth visiting at any time of the year. The lake is suitable for rowing, windsurfing, fishing, swimming and boating. Five kilometers from the village in a beautiful location on the banks of the river Ladonas there are organized alternative tourism facilities where archery, mountain biking, rowing, canoeing and kayaking are organized. The river and the lake are full of fish of various species. One of the attractions of Gortynia is the Hydroelectric Dam of the river Ladonas, built on a ravine of the Aphrodite Mountain. It collects 50,000,000 cubic meters of water, which is fed to the turbines of the two generators of the hydroelectric plant with a tunnel. The station generates an average of 350,000,000kwh of total annual electricity.
