Michaniona (Greek: Μηχανιώνα) was a former municipality in the Thessaloniki regional unit, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform, the town/suburb is part of the municipality of Thermaikos, of which it is a municipal unit.[1] Population 9,425 (2001). The seat of the municipality was in Nea Michaniona. The other communities in the municipal unit are Angelochori and Nea Kerasia.
The municipality is divided in
- Nea Michaniona / Δ.δ. Νέας Μηχανιώνας -- η Νέα Μηχανιώνα [ 7303 ]
- Aggelochorion / Δ.δ. Αγγελοχωρίου -- το Αγγελοχώριον [ 1017 ]
- Kerasia / Δ.δ. Ν.Κερασιάς -- η Νέα Κερασιά [ 1105 ]
The ancient city of Aenea (gr. Ainia) is NW of Nea Michaniona. Wall paintings of tombs which were found in the region are now in the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki.
Aggelochori or Angelochori (Αγγελοχωρι) (older form Agelochorion) is a village (district) of Michaniona. Its economy is mostly based on agriculture.
