Loures is a village and homonymous municipal district in the Municipality of Kofinas in the Prefecture of Heraklion. It is located on the northern outskirts of the plain of Messara. It is 53.8 km away from Heraklion.
The inhabitants are engaged in the cultivation of olives and raisins, as well as in animal husbandry. In the Lores, the native Masarite horse is extensively bred [1] [2] [3]. In the village are the churches of the Holy Cross (patron saint) and Agia Irini.
History
The settlement is mentioned in the Venetian censuses of the 16th century under the name Lures and 109 inhabitants (census of Kastrofylakas [4] 1583).
