Kotino (Κότινο) Xanthi
Kotino is a semi-mountainous village of Thrace in the Regional Unit of Xanthi at an altitude of 440 meters [1].
Geography - History
Kotino is located in the center of the former prefecture at a distance of 15 km north of Xanthi and 4 km south of Sminthi (seat of the municipality). It is built at the western foot of Mount Meletios, while to the west of the village passes the river Kosinthos and the EO of Xanthi - Echinos. Culturally it is included in Pomakochoria of Xanthi (as well as all of the area) [2] and previously it was mentioned with the name Kotsina (Pomak) [3] to belong (1878 to 1912) to the vilayet of Edrianoupolis, to the sandwich of Gioumultzina (Komotzinis in Xomotini) and [4]. As a settlement, it is officially reported, after the liberation, in 1924 in the Government Gazette 194A - 14/08/1924 to be annexed to the then community of Mycenae. [5] According to the Kallikratis Plan, it belongs to the municipal unit of Myki of the Municipality of Myki and according to the 2011 census, it has a population of 80 permanent residents.
