Geography - History

Kato Vassiliki is located on the northern shore of the Gulf of Patras below the mountain range of the sacred mountain of Aetolia, Varasova [3]. To the east of the village is the twin mountain range called Klokova.

The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. On the hill of Agia Triada east of today's village, there was probably the ancient city of Chalkeia or Chalkis, which according to Homer took part in the Trojan War with four other Aetolian cities. The village in today's location was inhabited in 1865 by farmers. The oldest location of the village was in Paliochori, where the old church of Agios Georgios is located, which was built in 1879.
