Kalavrouza, Aitoloakarnania

Kalavrouza is a mountainous settlement located in Nafpaktia of the regional unit of Etoloakarnania at an altitude of 600 meters [1].

Geography - History

Kalavrouza, which is informally called Pano or Ano to stand out from Kato Kalavrouza, is built on a ravine of Klokova [2], west of Nafpaktos and is 25.5 km away. The present village was created after the revolution of 1821 by inhabitants mainly of the settlement Paliokalavrouza which existed in the place "Paliokarya" but also other nearby ones, which had developed during the Byzantine and post-Byzantine period, such as Sersena or Serseno, between "Paliokaryas" and " Agia Kyriaki ", the Meadow of Klokova between Ano Kalavrouza and" Agrapidokambos ", Dramaschi on the ridge between Kalavrouzas and" Agrapidokambos ", the Masseos etc. [2]

Sights

Sights of the village are the parish church of Ai Thanasis, built in 1868, the church of Agia Kyriaki at "Pezoulia", where every year on July 7 the rescue of the village is celebrated by the Turks with a festival that gathers the inhabitants of the area and the Folklore Museum created by the local cultural association. The hiking trails in the mountainous area of ​​Klokova and the surrounding villages are also of tourist interest. [2]

Administratively

During the Turkish occupation, Kalavrouza belonged to the Lower Venetian and especially after the revolution of 1821 in the province of Nafpaktos (Nafpaktovenetiko). After the organization of the Municipalities in 1835, it became part of the Municipality of Nafpaktos [4]. In 1912 the community of Kalavrouza was founded [5] while in 1999, according to the plan of Kapodistrias, together with the neighboring communities of Ano Vassiliki, Kato Vassiliki, Gavrolimni and Trikorfo, they formed the Municipality of Chalkia [4].

According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Kato Kalavrouza, they constitute the local community of Kalavrouza, which belongs to the Municipal Unit of Chalkeia of the Municipality of Nafpaktia and according to the 2011 census has a population of 9 inhabitants [6].
