In his chronicle, Lorenzo de Monakis mentions that the Callergians built a castle in Kastri, which survives to this day. The settlement took its name from this fort. A Ducal document of 1382 states that James de Mendio bought a knightly manor in Kastri and two infantry manors in Melidoni. [1]

Francesco Basilicata does not mention it in 1630, but refers to the Turkish census of 1671. [1] In 1826, near Kastri, Turks led by Ahmet Kerimis besieged 39 rebels in an old church. The besieged managed to defend themselves, killing 40 of the besiegers and expelling the rest. [1]
