Kastraki (Καστράκι) Aitoloakarnania
Kastraki is a semi-mountainous settlement of Nafpaktia in the prefecture of Etoloakarnania [1] at an altitude of 430 meters [2]. According to the Kallikratis plan, together with Pitsinaiika and Sykia, they constitute the Local community of Pitsinaiika, which belongs to the Municipal Unit of Nafpaktos of the Municipality of Nafpaktia and according to the 2011 census has a population of 22 inhabitants [3].
Geography - History
Kastraki is located NW. of Nafpaktos, at a distance of 16 km from it and 1 km from the provincial road Pitsinaika - Famila [4]. Until 1940 it was called Vromiari, so it was renamed FEK 271/1940 [5]. The wider area of the village got its name due to the matings that existed and belonged to the Monastery of Panagia Filotheou, which was abolished in 1833 [2]. In 1961, Kastraki seceded from the community of Rigani and was designated the seat of the then established community of Pitsinaiika. In 1997, according to the plan of Kapodistrias, together with Pitsinaika and Sykia, it was annexed to the then Municipality of Nafpaktos.
To the north of the village on an inaccessible hill and at an altitude of 630 meters, between torrents, which end up in the river Evinos, there is a small Byzantine castle called Vromiarin. During the Venetian occupation it continued to be fortified. It is believed that there was an ancient Aetolian outpost, which continued to be used by the Byzantines to control rivers.
