Karaiskakis (Καραϊσκάκης) Aitoloakarnania
Karaiskakis is a lowland village of Astakos in the regional unit of Aitoloakarnania with an altitude of 30 meters [1]
Geography - History
Karaiskakis is located at the foot of Mount Veloutsa [2], 4 km north of Astakos and 58 km northwest of Messolonghi. Its oldest name was Dragamesto and it was renamed Karaiskakis in 1930 [3], because Karaiskakis had maintained his camp there during the revolution of 1821 [2]. According to the plan, Kallikratis is the local community of Karaiskaki that belongs to the municipal unit of Astakos of the Municipality of Xiromeros and according to the 2011 census has a population of 518 inhabitants [4] while in the 2001 census it had 630 inhabitants.
