Geroplatanos (Γεροπλάτανος) Thesprotia
Geroplatanos (former Doliani and Geroplatanos [1]) is a village in the municipality of Igoumenitsa, in the prefecture of Thesprotia, Epirus. According to the 2011 census, its population is 42.
General and historical data
Geroplatanos is located in the area of the village of Pigadoulia and is built at an altitude of 80 meters [1]. To the west flows the Thyamis, while to the north the road Ioannina - Filiates passes.
According to the Ottoman statistics of 1895, the population of Geroplatanos was 305 inhabitants (175 men and 130 women), divided into 66 tax havens [3]. It was incorporated into Greece - along with the rest of Thesprotia - during the Balkan Wars and, according to the 1913 census, had 298 inhabitants. Until World War II, the majority of the settlement's population belonged to the Cham minority.
Administratively, during the late period of Ottoman rule, it belonged to the Filiates kaza [3], while within the Greek state it was initially subordinated to the province of Filiates [1]. In 1997 it was annexed to the municipality of Parapotamos, while since 2011 it belongs to the municipal unit of Parapotamos of the Kallikratikos municipality of Igoumenitsa. Ecclesiastically, it belongs to the Diocese of Paramythia, Filiates, Giromeri and Parga.
