Ellinokastro (Ελληνόκαστρον) Karditsa

Ellinokastro (old name Vounista) is a village in the prefecture of Karditsa and belongs administratively to the municipality of Mouzaki. It is located at an altitude of 550 meters. It is a village with many stone fountains and an impressive view of Pindos. It was first mentioned in 1662 and this date is considered to be founding for the settlement. Ellinokastro has 255 inhabitants and covers an area of ​​11,628 acres.

The oldest written mention of the village is found in 1662. It was formerly called "Chora Vounista" and the probable date of its foundation according to tradition is the 14th-15th century. The name Ellinokastro was given after 1950 because in the area there is the peak "Paleokastro", where there is a castle.

The 50 permanent residents of the village, who during the summer months with the number of visitors are increasing, are engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry.

The village celebrates the Holy Spirit on the 15th of August.
