Adelfiko (Αδελφικό) Serres
Adelfiko is a village in the municipal unit of Skoutareos in the Municipality of Serres. The community has an area of 8,871 km² and an average altitude of 10 meters. [1]
Information
It has 2 shops, a cafe and a mini market. There is also a church dedicated to Agios Athanasios. The old name of Adelfiko is Angos Mahalas.
Origin of Name
There is a story about this name, according to which during the Turkish occupation there was a king who ruled in some villages of the area (now called Koumaria, Kato Kamila, Adelfiko, etc.). At that time the area of Adelfiko was swampy and uninhabited. A young man, Angos, fell in love with this king's daughter. However, this young man owed some money to the king and so he did not dare to ask her to marry her father. The girl also loved Agos and so he stole her. But in order not to be found by the girl's father, they went and hid in this swamp. Since then, the area was called Agkos Machalas, meaning the place where Agkos lives.
