Vowels
Ancient Greek Alphabetic script adapted from Phoenician , 900 BC ? (some do not agree with this idea., at least the development started a few centuries earlier ). A very important invention of the Greeks: The vowels (α , ε , η, ω ...). The Greek alphabet the first which used symbols for consonants and vowels. Before it was like writing “rd ths txt” instead “read this text”. In Egypt the name of a known Pharaoh was written as Rmss , archaeologists inserted artificial vowels and transformed his name into Ramses. Later they discovered that his name was more likely Riamesesa after a document with his name was found in another language. The Greeks provided the first real Alphabet.
