Lakithra (Λακήθρα) Kefalonia

Lakithra is a village in Kefalonia with 396 inhabitants according to the 2001 census. It has been the capital of the Municipality of Ano Livathos since 1887. The name of the village is very ancient and of unknown etymology.

The location of Lakithra is "amphitheatrically" in relation to the other villages of the Municipality of Livathos: , the islet of Zeus with the small church of Panagia Diotissa, and the island of Zakynthos opposite.

Among the sights of the village is the "Rock of Byron", where the philhellene poet Lord Byron was inspired for his poems during his stay on the island in 1823.

The Mycenaean tombs of Lakithra are also interesting. Specifically, very close to the Byron Rock, 4 chambered tombs with rich relics have been excavated, such as gold jewelry, necklace accessories and many vessels, mainly craters.
