Kokolata (Κοκολάτα) Kefalonia
\
Kokolata is a village in Kefalonia with an altitude of 80 meters. Administratively it belongs to the municipality of Argostoli of the homonymous prefecture. They are located about 3 km outside of Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia. It has 176 permanent residents, according to the 2011 census [2], and about 80 houses. The villagers are mainly engaged in animal husbandry and agriculture, as well as construction work. Tombs of the Mycenaean period have been excavated in the village, in which pottery of the time was found. These findings are on display at the Archaeological Museum of Argostoli. Kokolata is located near Kompothecrata where they are from the same region. Almost next to the village is the fortress of Agios Georgios or "Castle" as the locals call it. The 1953 earthquake literally destroyed the entire village, but the residents rebuilt it from scratch, and today only some of the old houses that have fallen on the roof and some of their walls have been destroyed.
In Kokolata, there was an elementary school, the building of which is now used for the events of the Apicultural Cooperative of Kefalonia and Ithaca [4]. In Kokolata there is also a church, dedicated to Agia Paraskevi. This is an Orthodox church that has a large courtyard with 3 white stone benches and 2 small trees. There are streams in the village, mainly in winter. Finally, Kokolata is one of the oldest villages in Kefallinia.
