Kerasia (Κερασιά) Arkadia
Kerasia is a settlement of the regional unit of Arcadia. The settlement has been declared protected. Kerasia is the seat of the local community of Kerasia, of the municipal unit of Skiritida of the municipality of Tripoli. According to the 2011 census it has 130 inhabitants. It is two kilometers from Vlachokerasia and one kilometer from the road that connects Tripoli with Sparta. [2]
The houses are simple and solid and follow the traditional architectural rhythms. Iron constructions are the work of traditional craftsmen. The village is famous for its fountains, works of experienced Lagadian craftsmen made with the care and expenses of the expatriate Kerasiotes. Desi, Tholoti Kato Vrisi (Mexias), Marmarenia Vrisi are unique examples of traditional art and technology together. At 3 km from Kerasia, the rejuvenated forest of Skiritida begins. Black pines, firs and the Arcadian oak are found here. The forest of Skiritida is the first modern large artificial forest and geographically occupies exactly the same area as the Arcadian ancient Skiritida. In Kerasia, the variety of golden Pilaf apples is produced, the first variety of apples that was created and registered in Greece. [3]
Until 1955 the village was called Arvanitokerasia and then it was renamed Kerasia and in 1977 Kerasia. [4]
