Elikonas (Ελικών) Voiotia
Elikonas (or Zerikia and Zeriki) is a village in the prefecture of Voiotia, built at an altitude of 850 meters on a small plateau of Elikonas. It is the most mountainous village of Elikonas. Administratively, it belongs to the Municipality of Levadia and has a permanent population, according to the 2011 Census, of 31 inhabitants. Until 1953, Elikonas was called Zerikia, when it was renamed Elikonas [1]. It is one of the villages created by Arvanite settlers in the area, around the middle of the 14th century.
Historical data
Elikonas was a large village of Voiotia until recently. By the early 1950s, it had a population of more than 1,000. During the 1960s, however, the population plummeted and the decline continued into the following decade, with the village almost deserted in the early 1980s. The main reason for the abandonment of the settlement was the astyphilia, the poverty of the local population and the isolation as until the 1980s there was no road connecting the village directly with Livadia. Many of the villagers who left it settled in Livadia in a neighborhood near the city's castle called Zagaras. The course of the population with dramatic fluctuations is shown in the following table:

The village was the seat of a community during the period 1912-1974, when it was abolished as the population of the village had already decreased dramatically. With the abolition of the community, the village joined the municipality of Levadeon. [3]
