Administrative changes
In the 1991 census, it is recognized as a settlement and annexed to the community of Aperathou, based in the settlement of Apeirathos. [5] [3]
In 1997, with the implementation of the Kapodistrias program (law 2539/97), the community of Aperathou was abolished and the settlement of Azalas was annexed to the newly established municipality of Drymalia, based in the settlement of Chalkio. [6] Specifically, with the Kapodistrias program, it belonged to the Municipal Department of Aperathou, of the Municipality of Drymalia, of the prefecture of Cyclades, to the geographical department of the Aegean Islands. [4]
In 2010, with the implementation of the Kallikratis program (law 3852/2010), the municipality of Drymalia is abolished and Azalas belongs to the Municipal Community of Aperathos, which belongs to the Municipality of Naxos & Small Cyclades. [7]
Today, after the last change of 2010 (Kallikratis program), it constitutes together with the settlements Aperathos (722 k.), Kanaki (14 k.), Kleido (24 k.), Lygaridia (23 k.), Moutsouna (84 k. .) and Panermos (8 k.) the municipal community of Aperathou (904 k.). The d.k. Aperathou belongs to the municipal unit of Drymalia, the municipality of Naxos and the Small Cyclades, the regional unit of Naxos (the former prefecture of Cyclades), in the region of South Aegean. Geography
This bay is created by a rocky eastern end in an east-northeast direction that creates a relative embrace near Cape Stavros. Name given due to the end of the cape.
From Azalas, the road ends about 2 km north of Loggonari (with the small beach of Pyrgamoni), after passing the seasonal ravine "Pnchti" and the small beach "Firo Limenari". [8]
The beach
Azalas beach is rocky except for a small part of it with pebbles or sometimes sand.
Weather conditions
For fishing activities in this area, it is necessary to constantly update the meteorological report due to the intense phenomena of the maritime situation that are observed. To the northeast and near the Azala bay are the Makares Islands.
