Agios Stefanos (formerly Ozeros or Nezeros) is a small village in the former province of Domokos in the regional unit of Fthiotida. It is located on the south shore of the dried lake Xyniada.
The word Nezeros is a place name used after the 5th century AD. with the descent of Slavic tribes into Greek territory. The word has a Slavic root meaning lake, swamp and was used for the Slavic tribe that had settled in the Peloponnese during the 8th century (Ezerites or Nezerites).
The name Agios Stefanos came from the homonymous church that according to tradition was built by a Turkish officer, when on the day of the feast of St. Stephen (December 27) he spent the night over the icy and foggy lake with his troops, without realizing it and without sink into it.
Its population, according to the 2011 Census, amounts to 312 inhabitants [1].
