Stamataiika (Σταματαίικα) Argolida
The village of Stamataiika is located at the foot of Mount Arachnaeus in Argolida. It took its name from the first inhabitants who lived there around 1815, with the name Stamatopoulos who came down from the mountainous parts of Arcadia and especially from the villages of Levidi and Kardara. It has an altitude of 450 meters, and the few inhabitants who live there, are engaged in animal husbandry and the cultivation of olive groves for oil production. The quality of the oil is unique due to the fact that the producers do not spray at all with agricultural medicines and instead of fertilizers they use manure from the animals.
In December 2006, only 1 family with a total population of 5 people lived permanently, while in 1960 about 85 people lived permanently. The village is supplied by a natural flowing spring. However, the pipes are made of asbestos, so they are considered carcinogenic and must be replaced immediately. The aqueduct, which is 2 km long, was built around 1960 with the personal work of the residents and to date has not been replaced.
Due to the difficulties and low resources that existed in the village, the young people left in search of better luck, studied and have become almost all scientists and supervise important positions in the Public as well as in the Private Sector.
In the eastern and northern part of the village, there are marble quarries. At the bottom of the village, there is the oldest oil processing litri which was built in the early 1940 by Dimitrios G. Stamatopoulos and Iraklis P. Kollias, and operated until 1968. In the summer of 2007 the new Mayor Mr. Ch. Tsakaliaris , paved the main road of the village and so access by car is easy, so a long-standing request of the residents was solved, that if it had been done 10-15 years ago, there would have been more permanent residents in the villa
