Piereis (Greek: Πιερείς) is a former municipality in the Kavala peripheral unit, East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Pangaio, of which it is a municipal unit.[1] Population 5,002 (2001). The seat of the municipality was in Moustheni.

Mesoropi

Mesoropi is a village of the Piereis municipality, its name is derived from the ancient greek "εν μεσω ορεων οπη ", "a hole between mountains". In the year 2001 the population was 610. In 1890 it was 1600. The village is at an altitude 350 m on Mount Pangaion. There are two churches in the village: Agios Georgios and Ioanni tou Prodromou
