The name of the village probably comes from a pre-Greek settlement, which was not saved. Near the village there is a large square building, which is megalithic and dates from the Late Minoan years. It is believed that the settlement was located in this area. In the experimental excavations that took place in the village, they brought to light great findings that prove the pre-Greek habitation of the village.
In the census of Kastrofylakas (K94) the village is mentioned with the name Ippidhito and with 63 inhabitants. Roussochoria is mentioned in the same source, with 190 inhabitants (K95).
Another version of the name says that it means dry land (negative ne = no and jump = source).
There is another version of the name, which is associated with the German Occupation and is unofficial. According to her, Nipiditos was named after a place from which foreign soldiers jumped (Allies against the Nazis).
In the area above the village are the caves Megali Spiliara, Vathis Spilios, Hostos Spilios, where the English and Greek saboteurs hid after the sabotage at the airport of Kasteli (1943).
Nipiditos together with Roussochoria were a municipal district of the former municipality of Arkalochori. Since 2011 it is a settlement of the respective local community and municipal unit of the Municipality of Minoa Pediada.
