It is a Local Community of the Municipal Unit of Zalongos of the Municipality of Preveza. It has 631 permanent residents. Its geographical location between the Ionian Sea and the Amvrakikos Gulf, the existence of large livestock companies and its mild climate, gives it the advantage of direct access to the food chain of the area (catches, fruit and vegetable farms, fruit and vegetable products) and of.

History

The history of the village dates back to 1922 when Pontian refugees settled in the plain of Lamari, near the local communities of Nea Sinopi and Archangelos. To this day, they retain their own customs and traditions, their particular cultural backgrounds and their linguistic idiom. On August 15 every year, the Pampoontian pilgrimage takes place at the Kozyli Monastery in Nea Sampsounta. During the days of remembrance of the patron saints, local folk festivals are organized with images of icons, treats, dances and cultural events. Also, cultural and sports clubs are active in the area, which contribute to the preservation of tradition and local customs, with events of various kinds.

The tragedy of Pontic Hellenism closes with the uprooting of those who survived, from their ancient cradles, after the Asia Minor catastrophe, in 1922. The Greek population of Sampsounta and the surrounding villages, despite bravely resisting by creating a guerrilla in the mountains, was literally decimated. Those who remained were transported by boat, carrying only their souls to Greece. Following the route Pontos - Piraeus - Makronisos (they remained in quarantine due to the epidemics) - Amaliada - Lefkada - Thesprotia, they arrive in Preveza.

Most come from the villages of Sampsounta Sernic, Kurucay, Sapsartza, Tekkekoy, Findicak, Almatsuch, Katikioi (Ano Amisos), Chataliji, Fuba, Garmakoi, Chasamba, Charsa, Garataa, Paikioi and some from Trapezounta, Kerasounta and Bafra.

At the same time, ships arrive from Piraeus, after passing through Istanbul, from Russia's Novorossiysk with Pontians, Sampsounta in origin who had immigrated to Russia. The causes of these pontine relocations in Russia are complex and varied and should be sought in both the host country and the Ottoman Empire, but mainly due to the insecurity of the population before, during and after Russian-Ottoman conflicts, especially during the Crimean War (1853-1856) and the war of 1877-1878, but also because at that time the inhabitants of these areas were in despair due to the additional tax burdens imposed on them by the local agades, In collaboration with the representatives of the Gate, these Pontic immigrants lived by families in villages (booty) of Popanta (Papadopoulos), Koukanton (Iliopoulou), Sachpazanton, etc., near Krimsk, Bakanski, mainly engaged in the cultivation of tobacco. They were Greek-speaking (they spoke the Greek and Pontic dialects) while the majority of those coming from the villages of Samsun were Turkish-speaking.

From Piraeus their ship transported them to the port of Preveza and from there they settled in Arta where they stayed for about two years. The state then granted them fields and plots of land in the Preveza area between Louros and Flamboura in the fertile Lamaris valley, near the mouth of the Louros River. They got there, met their compatriots from Pontus and all together under difficult conditions and with hard work they built Nea Sampsounta.
