Administrative changes

In 1835, the present-day settlements of Ano, Kato and Mesi Potamia are recognized as a settlement called Potamia, with 190 inhabitants (57 families) and is annexed to the newly established Bible municipality of Naxos province, based in the settlement of Galanados. [4] [18] [19]
In 1912, it was decided that the settlements, which had more than 300 inhabitants and a primary school, would become independent communities. Thus, the settlement of Potamia, which numbered more than 500 inhabitants, is detached from the municipality of Vivlos and is designated the seat of the community of Potamia. [20] [21]
In 1928, the census separately recognizes the settlements of Ano, Kato and Mesi Potamia, so the settlement of Potamia is abolished and in its place the community of Potamia is created, which includes the three separate settlements and its seat is defined as Ano Potamia. [22] [10]
In 1976, the settlement (Ano Potamia) ceased to be the seat of the community of Potamia and the settlement of Mesi Potamia was designated as the seat. [23] [24]
In 1997, with the implementation of the Kapodistrias program (law 2539/97), the settlement was annexed to the municipality of Naxos. [25] Specifically, with the Kapodistrias program, it was based in the Municipal District of Potamia, in the Municipality of Naxos, in the prefecture of Cyclades, in the geographical department of the Aegean Islands. [17]
In 2010, with the implementation of the Kallikratis program (law 3852/2010), the settlement was annexed to the newly established municipality of Naxos & Small Cyclades. [26]

Today, after the last change of 2010 (Kallikratis program), together with the settlements of Ano Potamia (127 k.) And Kato Potamia (59 k.), It constitutes the Local Community of Potamia (285 k.), Where a seat has been set. The so-called Potamias belongs to the Municipal Unit of Naxos, the municipality of Naxos and the Small Cyclades, the regional unit of Naxos (the former prefecture of Cyclades), in the region of South Aegean.
