Marathias (Μαραθιάς) Fokida
Marathias is a fishing village, on the west coast of the Corinthian Gulf in Dorida, Fokida Prefecture, at an altitude of 10 meters [1]. According to the 2011 census, the population is 512 permanent residents and is the Local Community of Marathia of the Municipal Unit of Efpalio of the Municipality of Doridos [2]. Until 2010, according to the Kapodistrias program, it belonged to the Municipality of Efpalio.
Geography - Sights
Marathias is located 18 km from Nafpaktos, on the road [dead link] Antirriou - Iteas and 81 km W of Delphi [3]. The village is built on the delta formed for years by the two streams located at the edges of the village below the Spoulithara peak [4]. In its small plain (about 1000 acres) it is spread around the village, olives, lemons, oranges, apricots, bananas and many other fruit trees are cultivated [5].
The patron saint of the village is Agios Ioannis the Forerunner with his church dominating the center of the village. At the western end of the village is the chapel of Panagia, next to the sea and under the shade of tall plane trees. It celebrates on August 23 and gathers a large number of pilgrims.
Marathias is a holiday destination. Every summer, but also on Halloween and Easter, it gathers local and foreign vacationers for its beauty and clear sea. It has several small modern hotel units and rooms to let, taverns, ouzo and cafes.
