Magoulades is a village in the northwestern tip of Corfu. Administratively it belongs to the municipality of Corfu of the homonymous regional unit. According to the 2011 census, it has 340 inhabitants. [2]
The village extends from Sidari to the beach of Arillas. It is 35 km from the city of Corfu. It is a village with a long history that is already mentioned in Homer with the name Magoula which means hill. Plato also visited the Magoulades in 405 BC. when he participated in the feasts of the Lenaeans in honor of the god Dionysus, which took place in the village of Nymphes.
The history of Magoulades is reflected in the many mansions in the village, but also in the number of churches and monasteries it has. One of them is Panagia Magouladon, or Panagia Ypsili which is one of the oldest and largest Monasteries of Corfu, as it dates back to the first quarter of the 10th century. Due to the importance and significance of its architectural ensemble and the relics it maintains, this Monastery has been designated as a Historic Preserved Monument.
Also, the central church of Magoulades, Agioi Theodoroi, which began to be built in 1920, is one of the most imposing temples in the Corfiot countryside.
In Magoulades, it started operating in 2001, one of the houses of the "Child's Smile" association, in a 1730 building donated by the church.
Also, on the third day of Easter, it becomes one of the largest processions on the island.
